Cantina Valpolicella Negrar
Veneto, Italy
Historic Valpolicella cooperative, birthplace of Amarone. Innovative, sustainable and community-minded with deep local roots.
Cantina Valpolicella Negrar is a cooperative with entrepreneurial drive rather than a tendency to settle. Two hundred- and thirty-members farm about seven hundred and fifty hectares in prime Valpolicella sites.
The winery makes everything from textural Soave to classic Valpolicella and luscious Recioto. The first Amarone is said to have emerged here in the 1930s when a Recioto barrel fermented dry. The team also researches ancient native varieties with local universities and reintroduces viable plants through a nursery. Education and community projects engage the next generation in the region’s wine heritage.
