Acquired by Stefano Girelli in 2016 after years of negotiation, Cortese remains one of Sicily’s most distinctive estates. Just eight kilometres from sister winery Santa Tresa, its different clones and soils create strikingly individual wines.
Winemaker Mattia Giacomelli blends traditional and modern techniques, using amphorae, open-top vats and large oak botti. The Nostru range highlights native varieties at approachable prices, while La Selezione represents the estate’s finest expression. The latest innovation is Cortese’s first orange wine, a poised Inzolia and Zibibbo blend with extended skin contact that captures the island’s vibrant energy and craftsmanship.
