Louis de Grenelle
Saumur, France
Independent Saumur sparkling house ageing wines in historic limestone caves. Family-run since 1859, producing refined, fruit-driven Loir fizz.
Maison Louis de Grenelle, founded in 1859 and based in Saumur, is the last independent, family-run sparkling-wine house in the Loire. Visionary winemaker Hubert Bodet acquired it in 1979, improving quality and forging partnerships with 24 growers committed to sustainable viticulture. Leadership passed to his daughter Françoise and son-in-law Jean-Pierre Flao, who continue to innovate while respecting tradition.
Beneath the estate’s plateau, wines age quietly in historic tuffeau cellars carved into the rock. Winemaker Guillaume Poitevin, with 20 years at the house, combines experience and curiosity to produce a refined range of sparkling wines that capture Saumur’s limestone elegance.
